Photo Restoration Service — Repair Old, Damaged & Faded Photos

Graphics Pixels provides professional photo restoration for old, damaged, and deteriorated photographs. We repair scratches, cracks, tears, water damage, mould staining, and fading — and reconstruct missing sections where damage has destroyed detail. Black and white photo colorization is also available.

Every restoration is done by hand in Photoshop. We do not run automated restoration filters. Each image is assessed individually and worked on at the pixel level to preserve the original character of the photograph while correcting the damage. Pricing from $30. Standard turnaround 2–5 business days. Free quote on request.

What Is Photo Restoration?

Photo restoration is the process of repairing physical and digital damage to photographs — scratches, surface cracks, tears, water stains, mould, fading, and missing sections — using Photoshop tools applied by a trained retoucher working at the pixel level.

The result is a clean, high-resolution digital copy of the original that can be printed, framed, or shared. Where sections are missing or destroyed, we reconstruct them from surrounding context or reference photos you provide. Every restoration is assessed individually — we do not use automated filters. Pricing from $30. Standard turnaround 2–5 business days. Free quote on request.

Photo Restoration Service Explained

See how we carefully assess damage, repair scratches, remove stains, restore faded tones, and rebuild missing detail — while preserving the original character of each photograph.

Our Photo Restoration Services

From repairing surface scratches on a single portrait to reconstructing heavily damaged archival prints — we handle every type of photo damage with precision and care, delivering clean digital copies ready for print or sharing.

Before — Scratch and Tear Repair
After — Scratch and Tear Repair

Scratch, Crack & Tear Repair

Surface scratches, fine cracks, and physical tears are removed using the clone stamp and healing brush — applied manually at the pixel level to match surrounding texture, tone, and grain. Light scratches take minutes; deep surface damage across critical areas of the image is worked on more slowly to avoid introducing artificial patterns. The repair is invisible in the final output.

  • Surface scratches and hairline cracks removed
  • Tears repaired with matched texture and tone
  • Grain and detail preserved around repair areas
  • No visible seams or artificial patterns in output
Before — Water Damage and Stain Removal
After — Water Damage and Stain Removal

Water Damage & Mould Stain Removal

Water damage creates tide marks, blotching, and uneven tonal shifts across the image surface. Mould staining leaves dark patches that obscure detail underneath. Both are treated using frequency separation — the surface texture and underlying tonal structure are worked on independently so the repair does not flatten detail. Affected areas are rebuilt to match the surrounding image without introducing artificial smoothness.

  • Water tide marks and blotching eliminated
  • Mould staining removed without flattening detail
  • Tonal consistency restored across affected areas
  • Original texture and grain maintained
Before — Fading and Tonal Restoration
After — Fading and Tonal Restoration

Fading & Tonal Restoration

Faded photographs lose shadow density, highlight separation, and overall contrast — leaving flat, washed-out images with colour casts from chemical or light degradation. We restore the tonal range using curves and levels adjustments combined with selective dodging and burning, bringing back depth and contrast while keeping skin tones and background values accurate. Yellowed or discoloured prints are neutralised without over-correcting the original warmth of the image.

  • Faded shadows and highlights restored
  • Yellowing and colour casts neutralised
  • Contrast and depth recovered
  • Natural warmth of original preserved
Before — Missing Section Reconstruction
After — Missing Section Reconstruction

Missing Section Reconstruction

Physical damage — torn edges, burned corners, missing pieces — leaves sections of the image destroyed. Where surrounding context provides enough information, we reconstruct missing areas using content-aware tools and hand painting, guided by the image's own lighting, direction, and subject. For portrait reconstruction where a face or body is partially missing, reference photos of the same subject improve accuracy significantly. We'll let you know what's achievable after assessing your image.

  • Torn edges and missing corners rebuilt
  • Background and environment reconstructed
  • Portrait features restored from context or reference
  • Honest assessment of what's achievable before work begins
Black and White Photo Colorization

Black & White Photo Colorization

Transform monochrome portraits, family albums, and historical photographs into full colour — applied by hand in Photoshop, not by automated AI filters. Skin tones, clothing, backgrounds, and environmental detail are each given accurate colour individually, guided by historical research, reference images, or your own knowledge of the subject. Colorization is offered as a standalone service or combined with restoration work on damaged originals.

  • Hand-applied colour, not automated filters
  • Accurate skin tones and clothing colours
  • Historical accuracy guided by reference or research
  • Combined with restoration for damaged originals

Commonly Asked Questions

We repair scratches, surface cracks, tears, water damage, mould staining, fading, and missing sections. We also do black and white colorization. If the damage is very severe — for example, large areas of the image are completely destroyed — we'll assess it first and let you know what's achievable before starting work.

No. Every restoration is carried out by hand in Photoshop by a trained retoucher. We do not run automated restoration filters. Each image is assessed individually and worked on at the pixel level, which produces far better results — especially for portraits and images with complex detail.

Scan at a minimum of 600 DPI for standard prints — 1200 DPI or higher for small originals like wallet photos. Save as TIFF or high-quality JPG. A flat-bed scanner produces better results than a phone camera for damaged prints, as it avoids reflections and distortion.

Standard turnaround is 2–5 business days depending on the extent of damage. Lightly damaged images are typically completed in 1–2 days. Heavily damaged or reconstructed images may take longer — we'll confirm the timeline in the quote before starting.

In many cases, yes. We reconstruct missing sections using content-aware tools and hand painting guided by surrounding context. For portrait reconstruction, reference photos of the subject help significantly. We'll assess the image first and give you a realistic view of what can be recovered.

Colorization is applied by hand in Photoshop — not by AI. Skin tones, clothing, backgrounds, and environmental detail are each coloured separately using historical reference, supplied reference images, or your knowledge of the subject. The result is a natural, realistic coloured image rather than the flat output produced by automated tools.

Yes. Send 1–5 images and we'll return a sample restoration with a quote — no charge and no obligation. It lets you see the quality and approach before committing to a paid order.
